Where to Daffodil Days in Lodi

Daffodils in Goeres Park

Yellow flowers, spring time, and a dentist.

Oddly enough, they all tie together.

Dr. Lyle B. Bohlman DDS opened his practice in Lodi in 1947.  Over the next 60 years he became a cornerstone of the community.  Not only was he a respected businessman, he donated his time to the community.  He was a founding member of the Lodi Garden Club and, along with other prominent residents such as Ted Goeres, worked to bring beauty to the city’s parks, streets, and businesses.

His own home, where he lived with his wife Helen, was a landmark for the city–not because of the house, but because of the yard.  In the spring, a wide swath on the eastern side of the Bohlman’s lawn blossomed in a bright yellow explosion.  A quarter of their lawn was filled with daffodils.   The sight of Dr. Bohlman’s lawn in bloom was–and still is–and official sign that spring had arrived.

When Dr. Bohlman died in 2007, the community looked for a way to remember his work.  The solution was simple:  Daffodils.   The Lodi Chamber of Commerce puchased 10,000 daffodil bulbs which they sold to community members and businesses.  When springtime wandered in for 2008, she was greeted by more than just one lawn; the entire city was filled with yellow blossoms.  Those blossoms not only a reminded us of a great citizen who had left us, but signaled a celebration of springtime.

The Chamber of Commerce has taken this a step farther.  At the end of April, as the flowers bloom, Lodi now celebrates Daffodil Days.  With food, festivies, and friendly greetings, we celebrate the coming of spring.  After months of cold and ice, we’re ready to greet the new season.
